Mocember? and Mo Bros Week 4 Photos

Well, Movember has officially come to an end.  Let's see how we all look.

Kevin Owens

I was a little unimpressed with my Mo this month.  I have been watching several notable athletes grow much better moustaches than me.  Although I did achieve the darkness I wanted, the fullness left a little to be desired.  Hopefully next year I can find some volume enhancing products that will help me grow the moustache of my wife's dreams.

Drew Owens

Drew has trimmed up the "Handlebar Mo" he was working with last week, to more reasonable standards.  he ends this month with a much more manageable mo.

Nick Horvath

Nick informed me that he would be out in the New Zealand wilderness this week.  With his new rugged look no animal would dare venture into his territory.

Jon Kalnas

Throughout this month I would occasionally open my email and have a new "Mo Photo" from one of our contestants.  Occasionally the pictures made me laugh out loud either because of the look of their Mo, or because of the amount of hair that had been grown in just a month.  Jon had me laughing from the latter this week.  He finishes off this contest with an overly impressive beard.

Last Day

Tomorrow I will be posting pictures detailing the final results of our participants Mos.  However today i would like to remind everyone that THIS IS THE LAST DAY TO DONATE!!!  I even enclosed this picture of me looking ridiculously sad...or sadly ridiculous.  Either one.

Moustache Black Friday and Mo Bros Week 3 Photos

It is sadly, our final "Moustache Friday" of the year.  Luckily, this Friday coincides with "Black Friday", in which dozens of moustached men venture out to get amazing deals on moustache related products.  I decided to join in and see what all the fuss is about.  During my trip I saw two men rocking AMAZING Mo's.  One, appeared to be German and, if I had to estimate, was close to 96 years old.  He had a large bushy greystache that covered two-thirds of his face.  I was monitoring his whereabouts while my wife tried on jeans.  Unfortunately her unveil came during his exit from the store and he was gone forever.

The second gentlemen spoke zero English, but had a Clark Gable stache that made me follow him into the food court for a picture.  My advances for a photo were quickly ignored and he began to walk faster towards the Sbarro line.  I decided to back off and keep all the photographic proof in my mind.

Now let's check out our Mo Bros Week 3 Photos.

Kevin Owens

As you can see the old "Soup Strainer" is becoming darker and thicker.  This could be interesting this weekend when I attend my high school reunion.  Hopefully we can get a few more donations for my troubles.

Brian Connelly

I don't even need to comment on Brian's Mo this week.  I will let him do it for me..."I don't wanna get ahead of myself, but if there is a Most Improved Mo (aka MIM) award ... I'll take it."  Well Said Bri!

Nick Horvath

Good god, that is an amazing gathering of hair on Nick's upper lip.  I am starting to realize the color variety we have in our contest.  From my dark mo, to Nick's red mo, to Greg's blonde mo, to Drew's salt and pepper mo.  Love it.

Jon Kalnas

Speaking of color, I am not sure if that fire extinguisher is for putting out fires in the office or on Jon's face.  The American Dream is currently rocking an awesome orange beard that will make all his trainees proud.

Drew Owens

Drew, as promised, ditched the beard and kept the Mo...And what a beauty it is.  It reminds me of a young Sam Elliot.

Mike Jordan

Mike checks in looking sharp as ever with a freshly shaped Mo Beard.  That is one thing we did not discuss...Mo Grooming.  A fresh shape up is a must for any athlete.

Week 2 Mo Bro Photos

Week 2 is over and it is time to see how we look.

WEEK 2

Kevin Owens

Due to spotty growth in the corners of my mouth, My Mo is a little uneven.  I am also sprouting hairs that don't exactly flow with the remainder of the stache.  Some are curling upwards ala Rollie Fingers, while the rest are conforming to gravity.  Luckily I have decided on the cowboy motif this month to draw attention away from my Mo's imperfections.

Brian Connelly

Brian is sprouting an amazing Mo despite his claims of poor growing potential.  I swear I have seen this face before somewhere...Maybe here

Drew Owens

Drew joins us today from what appears to be some sort of bunker.  At this point it is unclear how long he has been cut off from civilization.  I don't know whether to post this picture or contact the authorities.

Nick Horvath

In just a week and a half Nick has surpassed other Mo Bros in terms of overall volume.  It is currently summer in Nick's New Zealand home.  If flowers grow better in the summer does that mean moustaches do as well?  Evidently.

Jon Kalnas

It is week 2 and Jon has some decent sprouting on both his face and head.  This is a different look that I am used to from Jon.  A look definitely capable of hammer throwing a flaming ball into a tree...Again

Greg Mescall

Greg has some nice development on his blonde Mo.  I am sure taking a self pic and sending it to a dude was not what these guys had in mind when I asked them to sign up for this contest.  Greg describes the feeling as Favre/Oden ish.

Mike Jordan

Mike and his Mo Beard hail to us this week from Germany.  Apparently MJ is looking to capture next years crown in the Eastern Bavarian tradition, World Beard and Moustache Championship.  By the looks of it, he is on the right track.

Please Donate and vote for your favorite Mo!

Our other contestants will be sending in pictures throughout the day monitoring their progress...I will post them when I receive them.

Hey Mo Fo

I recently spoke to a fellow Movember participant, Donny Killian, who asked me to join his 6'6" and over Movember group.  I asked him the secret to his amazing donation totals.  He informed me that every time someone makes a joke at his "Mo's" expense, they have to donate...No questions asked.  I have decided to use that method for our fundraising.  From now on, if anyone makes a joke at myself or anyone in my groups expense they need to donate at least $10.  If they do not, they will be at the mercy of Karma.  I am not sure if any of you are familiar with a little show called My Name is Earl, but Karma can be a bitch.

Mo Money Mo Problems

Well we have officially kicked off our campaign only 1 week behind schedule.  Fortunately most of our Mo Bros have been rocking the stache since November 1st.  We have already raised some money for this great cause!  However with Mo Money comes Mo Problems.

First problem is the itching...I have grown a full beard before, but only noticed itching in my chin region.  Now I can't stop scratching the whiskers above my lip.  I heard running a moustache comb through it alleviates some of the pain.  I added such a product to my weekend grocery list.

Second problem is the sex appeal.  I have never seen so many ladies (50 and over) checking me out.  I am not sure how the rest of our competitors are handling this situation, but I'll tell you...from my perspective, it is driving my wife mad!  Everywhere we go, whether it is book store, or the doctors office or the early bird at our local diner...These women are gravitating toward the Mo.  Tom Selleck, Burt Reynolds, Mr Kotter...What should I do?

Mo Bros Week 1 Moustaches

Here are some updated photos from our Mo Bros...I will continue to post them as I receive them.

WEEK 1:

Kevin Owens

I like to think my "Mo" looks a little sinister...like an early 20th century villain.

 Brian Connelly

Brian has informed me that his "Mo" doesn't really grow.  We will see what happens the next few weeks.

Mike Jordan

It looks like Mike has started his own "Mo" growing contest prior to the start of this one.  That's what happens when you are overseas...Beard growing becomes a hobby.

Drew Owens

Drew is going with the rugged look just in time for the holidays.  I have been assured that the beard will go before Thanksgiving and nothing but an amazing Mo will remain...can't wait.

Nick Horvath

To me the sky is the limit this month for Nick...When Nick signed on just a few days ago, he had recently shaved.  The progress he has made in such little time gives me high hopes for the future.

Jon Kalnas

The American Dream Jon Kalnas joins us this morning with some fine stubble.  A few more weeks and he'll be the most intimidating man in the shot putting circle.

Greg Mescall

Here is an up close and personal look at the illusive "Blonde Mo" sported here by our own Greg Mescall, or as he is known on Hugging Harold Reynolds as Cadillac Mescalade.

Our other contestants will be sending in pictures throughout the day monitoring their progress...I will post them when I receive them.

Welcome

Hello everyone and welcome to our fundraising site.  Let me give you a little background on this project.  A few weeks ago I was contemplating writing a piece about how much I enjoyed giving back to the community during my professional career.  Since I am apparently no longer wanted by the basketball community, I decided to partner with The Movember Foundation in order to give back…And what better way to do so then growing a moustache?

I always appreciated the Movember concept.  When I was in Australia our entire team grew a moustache to raise money for charity.  Not only did I enjoy my new friend on my upper lip, but I was able to raise awareness for prostate cancer…all while looking like a young Cap’n Crunch.  This year all funds raised will go to Movember and it’s beneficiary partners the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG.

The PCF uses the money raised by Movember to fund research that is accelerating the discovery of better treatments and ultimately finding a cure for prostate cancer. One such program is the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center’s research, which has recently made a significant breakthrough. They identified 24 different kinds of prostate cancer and how aggressive each is. This should enable scientists to soon be able to answer the agonizing question facing men with prostate cancer: does their cancer need immediate treatment, and if so what is the best treatment, or can it be left alone?

LIVESTRONG uses the money raised by Movember to fund important programs to support young adults and their families battling and surviving cancer.

The rules of this contest are simple.  Each competitor has been growing their facial hair over the past week.  I have allowed the facial hair to be in whatever form they would like.  Obviously the crazier the better.  What I ask from you, is to sponsor one of our "Mo Bros" It does not need to be a lot of money…A quarter a day, a dollar a day, etc.  When you sponsor a Mo Bro you not only support this incredible organization, but you will make them feel guilty about shaving just because “society” deems it inappropriate.

I have enlisted the help of several friends and players I have stayed in touch with over the years.  Every few days we will be posting an updated picture of their facial hair with a voting poll up so you can vote for your favorite moustache.  We are starting with only 5 participants; however I am hoping that the number will grow as the days and weeks of “Movember” pass.  For anyone who is on the fence about being one of our contestants just remember; When Tom Selleck first grew a moustache, people probably told him he looked ridiculous…and now he is an American Icon.
